The churches of the Parish of Crondall and Ewshot

There are two churches in the parish which were merged in 1977: All Saints in Crondall and St. Mary's in Ewshot. The Rev. Karen E Hutchinson was inducted into the parish on Monday 15th May 2006 by the Bishop of Dorking.

All Saints is a Grade I listed church of considerable historic interest dating back to the 12th Century. A church has existed on this site since the 9th Century and the church was rated at 20s in the Domesday Book of 1086. It has been called the ‘Cathedral of North Hampshire’.

St Mary’s was consecrated in 1873 and is built in the Early English style with a nave and chancel and has a more traditional style of worship.

Tim Wilson has provided us with a brief history of All Saints, and a brief history of St Mary's.

All are welcome to visit both churches and attend the services. The vicar has an open policy for those wishing to take communion.

The Bishop of Guildford is the patron of the parish.

Holy Baptism, Thanksgiving for Birth of a child and Marriages are made by arrangement with the vicar.

Sunday School

The Crèche and Sunday School meet at 9.20 a.m. at the Church Rooms (opposite All Saints church in Croft Lane, Crondall) every Sunday except for the first Sunday before half-term, the Sunday after Christmas and the summer holidays. The children come over to the Family Service at approximately 10.15 to join in for a blessing at the altar rail.

The Sunday School participates more fully at the Family Service on the first Sunday in October for Harvest Festival, when the children are encouraged to bring in Harvest Gifts. Also we have a Toy Service on Christmas Day in St Mary's, Ewshot at 9.30 a.m. and at All Saints Crondall at 10.30 a.m. when the children are encouraged to bring a toy for an orphanage in Romania. There are a number of special children's services throughout the year as advertised. Other activities include a visit to a Pantomime, a family barbecue and a Junior Activity.

The Sunday School is divided into three age groups:

  • the Crèche is for babies up to 3 years old and is supervised by two adults.
  • Sunday School is from 3 years to approximately 8 years old.
  • the Junior Church, 9-12 years, meet on the first Sunday of each month in the Old Gym opposite the Village Hall. Sometimes a sporting activity is arranged for an hour after Family Service for the Juniors.

The policy of the Sunday School is to provide a caring and creative environment for the children to grow up in the Christian Faith. Each session there is generally an activity, story, game and prayers.

Facilities

There is a crèche and Sunday school at the Church Rooms Crondall every Sunday during term time at 9.20 am. Children join the congregation at 10.15 during Family Worship and are an important part of the service.
